DISCUSS THE FUTURE OF OUR PN GROUP

Hello member,

Over the years, we all have benefitted from the information, education and social connections provided by the DC Metro PN Support Group. It is an active and successful group that has grown to nearly 350 members. It offers regular Zoom meetings, Facebook page, website, Resource Directory, and other services.

But there are many other PN sufferers and their caregivers who are suffering alone. 

A small core group, including Pat, Mike, David and Judson, has been working on a new initiative, which we are calling the Peripheral Neuropathy Support Network.

Our goals are: (1) to reach more people to help them organize into NEW community-based groups, (2) to link these groups together into a network, and (3) to provide education, emotional support, and advocacy for all PN sufferers and their caregivers. 

By December 31, 2021, this core group wants to transition to work primarily on this new initiative.

To simultaneously grow this outreach initiative and to sustain the DC Metro chapter, YOUR HELP IS NEEDED!

Most critically, we need someone to step up to assume the chapter leadership role, freeing Pat to work on the new initiative. We also need a few other volunteers to help with other aspects of running the DC group. During this transition, we will be available to train and support these volunteers.

]]> This site is designed to make it possible for any support group leader or volunteer to keep the world updated on how to reach their group, what that group is doing or planning and any other information or lessons learned that they want to share.

All that is required is that the volunteer send us an email. We will turn that email into a WordPress post. By default we will delete the old post, but it is possible to just add a new one. With a little assistance, a post can be turned into a semi-permanent “page”. If some volunteers are comfortable learning something new, we can teach them some WordPress skills and they can put stuff up without assistance from us.

Visitors to this website will see a list of support groups on our home page. Each is labeled by a short “name” of the group. The visitor can search for that name and a list of references (“posts” or “pages”) will be presented. The visitor can click on items in the list and read about that group.

In addition to the list of groups, this site’s home page can get to instructions showing how:

  • We can help volunteers set things up to show information about their new group.
  • How to use an email message to send in information about the group to replace what is currently shown
  • How to use an email message to send in information about the group that is not replacing what is there but is adding a new section (a new “page” or “post”) to make it possible to call attention to some thing special such as an event or a special feature feature of the group.

We are in the process of setting up a new service to help support group leaders.

It will allow leaders to post their contact info, schedule, notices of future events, bragging er… dignified descriptions of past activity, photos.  Basically anything they want to tell the world (or, more relevantly, their members).

We are still testing this, but it is working now. There are some features of the current configuration that we need to change. And we need to post instructions to allow the leaders to start.
